A fire broke out at a coach parking area on Kanchanaphisek Road, Bangkok damaging nearly 10 buses but fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Firefighters quickly responded to the blaze, which occurred yesterday, December 25, at a facility owned by Siam Transport Company, located along the western ring road of Bangkok in Thawi Watthana district. Police Inspector Senee Kanpawong of Bang Sao Thong Police Station received the alert and rushed to the scene with firefighters and rescue teams from Bang Khun Non Fire Station.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an inferno engulfing the parked coaches, including operational and decommissioned vehicles. The blaze had already spread to six buses, threatening further devastation to nearby vehicles. Firefighters acted swiftly, dousing the flames to prevent them from reaching a nearby used car tent. After around 20 minutes of dedicated effort, the fire was finally brought under control. Initial inspections revealed that nine coaches sustained damage, but there were no reports of injuries or fatalities.

Somkiat Srisompote, a 57 year old driver who witnessed the incident, recounted his experience to investigators. While taking a break near the scene, he noticed smoke rising from a bus in the back row. The fire quickly intensified, spreading to an adjacent vehicle. Realising the gravity of the situation, Somkiat immediately alerted the police. He further explained that the affected buses were retired vehicles, having been parked for roughly a decade. With all doors locked and batteries likely defunct from years of disuse, the cause of the fire remains a mystery.

“The vehicles affected by the fire were those that had been out of service for around 10 years.”

“We are working diligently to understand the cause of the fire and will take necessary steps to ensure such an event does not happen again.”
