THE $1.128 billion Mega Millions jackpot has been collected almost nine months after the winning numbers were announced.
The sum, the fifth-largest Mega Millions jackpot ever, was claimed by a single person in New Jersey on Monday.

The lucky lotto player claimed the prize three months before the ticket was set to expire.
In New Jersey, lottery winners have a year from the date of the drawing to collect the prize before the ticket expires, according to the state’s lottery commission.
The ticket was drawn on March 26 at a ShopRite in Monmouth County, about 49 miles east of Trenton.
The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, opted to collect their earnings in a lump sum.
The player took home a whopping $537.5 million before state and federal taxes.
