Five cash-saving tips to keep track of your subscription services

BETWEEN us, we waste almost £700million a year on unused subscriptions.

Part of that comes from four in ten people accidentally signing up because deals renew without them realising, according to Citizens Advice.

Track what you are signed up to with these tips . . .

STATEMENT SPY: The first stop should be your bank and credit card statements. If you bank online, check the “direct debits” tab.

Look back through at least a year’s statements to spot any services you’ve paid for during that time. Remember, some may only be a yearly payment.

TECH SPENDING TRAPS: These days, it is easy to sign up through Apple Pay or Google Play, or end up paying after a free trial finishes.

Open the Apple App Store or Google Play apps and click on “account”, then “subscriptions” to see what you are paying for.

Also check “payments and subscriptions” on Gmail for any other payments you may have forgotten about.

INBOX INVESTIGATION: Drill down into your email inbox for welcome messages from when you signed up for subscriptions. Use the advanced search function in your email and type words such as “welcome” or “membership” into the subject field.

SAVVY STREAMING: Pay special attention to music and film streaming services as it is easy to sign up for more than you need.

Make sure your family has only signed up once and opt for the lowest tier of service that you need.

Most streaming services allow you to put your subscription on hold, so you can skip a few months to save money and then see if you miss it.

EXPLORE AMAZON: Check your subscriptions on the site are up to date.

Along with Prime, there are video, music, audiobook and reading subscriptions.

Do an Amazon audit to check what you’re paying for.
