Mbiti Mwondi, in a post on X, said that after getting an A in secondary school, he worked at Equity Bank before starting University of Nairobi (UoN) to study medicine and surgery.

He explained that it has been five years since he left school and that he has never had the opportunity to use his knowledge effectively.

“I feel sad when I see those A’s. I also passed KCSE and got a strong A, and I was among the best in the country, even featured in the magazine. I worked at Equity Bank and then med school. Five years later, post-med post-university, I’m surviving on gigs because I’ve never found a good opportunity to use my skills and abilities effectively, he says.

Mwondi explained that he has never been employed by the government, adding that his post-campus professional life has been ramping up and on the way to making money.

“I have never had a pay slip in my entire life and I am not even part of the collective agreement that the doctors are looking at. The government has never hired me, and despite my lack of connections, I said I would never bribe anyone for a county or state job. My whole life after campus has been hustling all over the place to survive,” he observed.

Courses KCSE 2024 candidates should consider

The doctor urged parents to register their children for self-sufficiency courses and universities globally that allow creativity and innovation.

He regretted turning down an Ivy League university for the UoN medical school, noting that his peers who took the chance are doing better.

“The whole point of this post is to tell you to advise these kids to enroll in self-sustaining courses and universities globally that allow creativity and innovation. I turned down Ivy League universities for UoN medical school, and my peers, like Nalianya , building robots in Texas, and my classmate @CKalekem doing amazing things in tech,” he said.

He further lamented that the government has no plans for the youth and highlighted a common notion that A students work for C or D students.

According to Mwondi, an A student should build startups, solve social problems and employ people in various sectors of the economy, as functional states do.

“Some of us learned this reality late, but those kids may have a chance early. We were told the best careers were actuarial science and medicine. Let’s sell them STEM and autonomy as the future! Students should be improving our society, not work for C/D students, he added.
