Global Handwashing Day is the global campaign taken on annually on 15 October. The main aim of this day is to make people realize hand washing as the simplest means of ensuring hygiene. Global Hand Washing Day started on August 2008 during the annual World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden. It was organized for the first time on October 15, 2008 when over 120 million children washed their hands with soap in more than 70 countries around the world. This has ever since been observed each year and many organizations, government departments, and community organizations took it as inspiration to create awareness of hand washing.
Theme of Global Handwashing Day 2024 is “Why clean hands are still important?”.
