Grocery Distribution Turns Fatal: Husband Kills Wife For “Favouring” Her Own Mother While Neglecting His

Zimbabwe Man Arrested for Wife’s Death in Grocery Dispute

A domestic dispute over grocery distribution has ended in tragedy, leaving a woman dead and her husband facing murder charges. The shocking incident took place in Chipinge, Zimbabwe, on 8 December 2024.

Isiah Simango, aged 28, is accused of killing his wife during a heated argument over allegations of favouritism in how groceries were distributed between their respective families.

Argument Over Groceries Escalates

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) of Zimbabwe, the altercation began when Simango accused his wife of prioritising her mother while neglecting his.

“He accused her of buying food for her mother while neglecting his own mother,” the NPA said in a statement.

The dispute quickly escalated, and Simango allegedly resorted to violence. Reports indicate he struck his wife on the head with a mattock, a tool commonly used for farming. The attack left her critically injured.

Simango then allegedly bound her hands and legs with a cloth, leaving her immobilised. To cover up the incident, he is said to have locked their home from the outside and fled, leaving his wife behind.

Body Discovered in Decomposed State

The gruesome nature of the crime came to light when neighbours noticed a foul odour emanating from the couple’s home. Upon investigation, authorities discovered the wife’s lifeless body in an advanced state of decomposition.

A community member, who requested anonymity, expressed shock at the discovery. “They seemed like a normal couple. No one expected something like this to happen,” the neighbour said.

Simango was arrested shortly afterwards and appeared before the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court. He has been remanded in custody until 30 December 2024 as investigations continue.

Calls for Peaceful Conflict Resolution

The NPA has condemned the violence, highlighting the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful means.

“We encourage members of the public to resolve disputes amicably or involve a third party to mediate. Violence is never the solution,” said an NPA spokesperson.

The NPA has urged communities to stand united in efforts to combat gender-based violence, reiterating its message through hashtags like #EndGBV and #NoToDomesticViolence.

Simango’s trial is expected to shed light on the events leading up to the tragic incident.
