Harare Thief Makes Off with US$20,000 and Laptop in Newlands Break-In
A Harare family was left counting their losses after a thief stole US$20,000 in cash during a burglary at their home in Newlands.

Details of the Break-In
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, which occurred on December 13, 2024.
According to a statement shared on the ZRP X account, an unidentified suspect broke through the dining room door to gain access to the house.
Once inside, the thief reportedly stole a cash box containing US$20,000 and a laptop.
“Police in Harare are investigating a case of unlawful entry into premises and theft which occurred on 13/12/24 at a house along Abyone Drive, Newlands.
An unknown suspect broke the dining room door and gained entry into the house before stealing a cash box containing USD 20 000.00 and a laptop.”
The police have urged anyone with information about the crime to report it to their nearest station.
“Anyone with information to report at any nearest Police Station.”
Related Case in Marondera
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police in Marondera are investigating a burglary at a farmhouse on Rakodzi Estate.
The break-in, which occurred on December 12, 2024, involved unknown suspects who forced open the main entrance door and stole firearms, including a Farbam shotgun, a Brno shotgun, and a BSA rifle.
The theft took place while the property owner was away in Harare.
“Police in Marondera are investigating a case of unlawful entry into premises and theft which occurred at a farm house at Rakodzi Estate on 12/12/24.
Unknown suspects broke the main entrance door and gained entry into the house where they stole a Farbam shotgun, Brno shotgun and BSA rifle. The incident occurred while the complainant was away in Harare.”
Police Call for Information
The ZRP has reiterated its appeal for community support in both cases, urging individuals with relevant information to assist law enforcement by reporting at any nearby police station.
