Haryana is one of the prominent North Indian states of India, formed on 1 November 1966 after separation from the state of Punjab based on linguistic differences. The day is observed as Haryana Day and it symbolizes the celebration of Haryana’s growth and cultural diversity.
Haryana has a very old history and it has been described in many ancient texts. It is also believed that this region was very significant in the Mahabharata period. Haryana was established under the Punjab Reorganization Act 1966. The Government of India set up a commission headed by Justice JC Shah, who decided the boundaries of the new state. This commission, in its report dated 31 May 1966, recommended that Hisar, Mahendragarh, Gurgaon, Rohtak, and Kamal districts be included in Haryana. According to this report, Chandigarh was declared a Union Territory which is the joint capital for both states.
The economy of Haryana is mainly based on agriculture. It can also be referred to as the ‘Green Land of India’. Wheat, paddy, sugarcane, cotton, and several other crops are grown upon the fertile land. Haryana is also famous in the production of dairy items. In the last many years, Haryana has also developed industrially as well. A lot of development has taken place here in the automobile, textile, and information technology sectors that have augmented the economy of the state.
Haryana is known as the land of heroes, as the percentage of soldiers from this state in the Indian Army is high. Warriors like Rao Tula Ram, Veer Hemu, and Raja Nahar Singh of Ballabhgarh have set an example of bravery here. This state has also made an important contribution in the struggle for India’s independence, due to which the feeling of nationalism is even stronger in the minds of the people of Haryana.
On Haryana Day, cultural and social programs are organized across the state. The major attractions of the day include the cycle rally from Chandigarh to Panchkula, cooking competition, and the music and dance performance on Haryanvi tracks. On the day of Haryana Day, a lot of people refresh their rich heritage in their mind by participating in a lot of cultural activities.
