Hearts fans blame Michael Stewart for Heidenheim goal as they tell former star ‘that’s your fault’

HEARTS were chasing a third straight win in the Conference League as they hosted Bundesliga side Heidenheim tonight.

But they fell behind in the second half to a breakaway goal from Sirlord Conteh, before Jan Schoppner added a late second.

Former player and TNT Sports co-commentator Michael Stewart took blame from Hearts fans for the first goal they conceded

The men from Tynecastle were the better team in the first half and should have scored through a huge early chance for goal-shy captain Lawrence Shankland.

But they couldn’t make their dominance count and Conteh headed home just before the hour mark with the visitors’ first shot on target.

Ex-Hearts man Michael Stewart was on co-comms duty for TNT Sports, and he came in for criticism from Jambos fans for his commentary just before Heidenheim scored.

Stewart had said: “Heidenheim have offered very little going forward.”

Mere moments later, Conteh had flung himself at Mathias Honsak’s cross and scored the opener.

And angry Hearts fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to lament the pundit’s jinx.

One supporter said: “Michael Stewart with the kiss of death there, ‘Heidenheim have offered very little going forward’ and two seconds later – goal!”

Another fan posted: “Michael Stewart jinxed it, Heidenheim take the lead against Hearts.”

A third simply said: “That’s Michael Stewart’s fault.”

Celtic fans reacted similarly to a commentary gaff from ex-Hoops keeper Joe Hart on Tuesday.

Hart praised Celt’s defending from corners during his coverage of the match against RB Leipzig, only for the Germans to score from their very next set-piece.

Celtic went on to turn the game around and claim a spectacular 3-1 victory.
