New ZIFA President Set to Pocket US$50,000 Annual Bonus
As the ZIFA elections near, the substantial sum that the incoming president is set to earn has been revealed.
The new ZIFA president will reportedly be entitled to an annual US$50,000 tax-free bonus from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as compensation for their role in leading the national football association.
Breakdown of the Bonus: US$4,166 Per Month
According to H-Metro, the US$50,000 annual bonus equates to approximately US$4,166 a month, providing a significant financial incentive for those vying for the position.
The publication further revealed that this increase, announced in October 2024, represents a substantial jump from the previous annual payment of US$20,000.
CAF’s Rationale Behind the Payment Increase
CAF president Patrice Motsepe highlighted that while the increase is notable, the payment is still “insignificant” for some national association leaders.
He explained that many association presidents are often forced to run operations with limited financial resources.
“Some of your presidents have no resources, they’ve got nothing, and they’ve got to run the member associations out of their pockets,” Motsepe remarked.
Candidates for ZIFA Presidency
As the elections set for January 25 draw closer, ZIFA is set to announce the final list of candidates vying for the presidential position. As of now, six candidates are competing for the role:
- Marshall Gore
- Philemon Machana
- Nqobile Magwizi
- Martin Kweza
- Twine Phiri
- Makwinje Phiri
The final list of candidates and the voting members of the ZIFA Council will be confirmed tomorrow.
