Historic college football stadium looks unrecognizable and under blanket of snow days before huge playoff game

A COLLEGE football stadium filled with history has looked unnoticeable thanks to snowy conditions.

Beaver Stadium, home of the Penn State Nittany Lions, will host one of the first expanded playoff games.

The new College Football Playoff format will begin on Friday when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish host the Indiana Hoosiers.

The winner of the game will face the Georgia Bulldogs.

One day later, there will be three more first-round playoff games, including the Penn State matchup against the SMU Mustangs at Beaver Stadium, which has seen plenty of snow recently.

On Monday, Mark Brennan of 247 Sports posted a photo on X of the venue which was covered in a blanket of snow.

“Early playoff week White Out conditions at Beaver Stadium,” the Penn State writer wrote.

Fans were enamored with the look of the historic snow-covered Beaver Stadium.

“Such a beautiful view,” one commented.

“Let’s go!” a second wrote.

“Playoff snow games are going to be so glorious,” a third added.

“Give me more snow!” a fourth said.

There doesn’t appear to be a threat of snow for the Saturday game in State College, Pennsylvania.

However, it will be a chilly one as temperatures will be in the mid to upper 20s for the noon kickoff.

And the wind chill will be in the 10s.

Beaver Stadium, which opened in 1960, has a capacity of 106,572.

How the 12-team CFP works

The first ever 12-team College Football Playoff kicks off on Friday, December 20.

But who will get in?

The highest four ranked conference champions will all be guaranteed a first-round bye into the quarterfinals around New Year.

The fifth highest ranked conference champion will also be assured a place, regardless of if they’re ranked in the top 12 teams in the nation.

That ensures a champion from one of the second tier of conferences will get a chance to play for the national championship.

Teams seeded five through eight will host a first round playoff game on Friday, 20 or Saturday 21 December.

And they will go up against the teams seeded nine through 12.

All of these rankings and seedings are decided by the CFP committee – based on record and strength of schedule among other factors.

This year’s National Championship Game will take place on Monday, January 20 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

It’s the second-largest stadium in the Western Hemisphere.

Both the Nittany Lions and Mustangs enter the game with identical 11-2 records.

However, Penn State enters the contest as the heavy favorite, having lost to Ohio State earlier in the season and suffering a one-score loss to the Oregon Ducks in the Big 10 title game.

SMU, meanwhile, lost to the BYU Cougars and eventual playoff squad Clemson Tigers.

The other two games on Saturday will be Clemson taking on the Texas Longhorns in Austin and Ohio State hosting the Tennesee Wildcats.
