TELLY writer Neil Forsyth has revealed his hit crime drama The Gold will return to screens next year.
The Scots TV guru earned countless plaudits when the critically-acclaimed BBC drama became one of the UK’s top five most watched programmes of 2023.

It was inspired by the true story of the 1983 Brink’s-Mat robbery – when a gang stole £26 million worth of gold bullion, diamonds and cash from a warehouse in Heathrow.
Forsyth, from Dundee, told the Restless Natives podcast: “We’ve just finished the second series, just sent that off, so that will be coming out next year.
“We filmed that in the UK and Tenerife.
“We were up in the north in the island’s capital, around Santa Cruz, and it was beautiful.
“The old capital is like Seville or something, it’s all cobbled streets.
“We shot Tenerife as five different countries because there’s just so much variation in the wildlife and the scenery that we were able to do that.
Returning cast will include Tom Cullen as John Palmer, alongside Hugh Bonneville, Charlotte Spencer, Emun Elliott, Stefanie Martini and Sam Spruell.
Forsyth added: “It’s a good story.
“That’s the thing about The Gold. I think I was very fortunate.
“It’s just a really good story and it’s a big story which is very attractive to a writer because it can carry a series of television.
“The places it goes are incredible.
“Without giving too much away about the second series it’s probably a slightly more international story compared to the first one.”
