A heartbroken cat owner in Hong Kong has taken to social media to hold a renovation company responsible for the tragic death of his beloved pet, Ah Po, after a newly installed TV wall collapsed, crushing the eight year old cat.
The incident, which occurred yesterday, October 8, has left Chris, the cat’s owner, reeling with grief and frustration.
Chris explained that the TV wall was meant to create a safer environment for his cat, Ah Po. However, his worst fears were realised when the structure collapsed while he was away.
Chris accused the renovation company of shoddy work.
“It was held up by only two screws!”
The disaster prompted him to accuse the company of negligence, with safety concerns front and centre.
In the aftermath, the company’s response only added fuel to the fire. According to Chris, instead of showing genuine remorse, they offered to replace the damaged cabinet and placed the blame on the installer. The company’s proposed compensation of HK$20,000 (approximately 86,000 baht) was also deemed woefully inadequate.

The engineering director of the renovation company addressed the growing backlash today, October 9, insisting that this was their first incident of this nature. Despite issuing three public apologies and sending personnel to assess the damage, the company has faced fierce online criticism.
One enraged commenter wrote, “This isn’t an accident or oversight; it’s deliberate cost-cutting… next time, it could be a person!”
In response, the company has now offered a one-time free safety check for similar installations, urging customers to report any concerns immediately. Chris, meanwhile, has warned others to thoroughly vet their renovation work, so no one else faces such a tragedy, reported DimSum Daily HK.
