Iconic Rose Bowl stadium unrecognizable as makeshift camp with families stuck in tents and RVs to flee deadly LA fires

THE legendary Rose Bowl Stadium has looked unnoticeable as the devastating wildfires continue to engulf the Los Angeles area.

The historic college football venue in Pasadena has been used as a hub for families in need with the fires continuing to spread in Southern California.

On New Year’s Day, the 90,000-capacity Rose Bowl Stadium was used for the College Football Playoff game between the Oregon Ducks and Ohio State Buckeyes, who won 41-21 in the Rose Bowl.

Fast forward to the week of January 13 and the complex has been a makeshift camp for donations to aid victims of the Easton Canyon wildfire.

The Rose Bowl has become a center for “emergency response efforts,” per the stadium’s X account, and a place for firefights combating the fire.

The iconic Rose Bowl stadium looks much different than usual, as multiple tents and trailers housing citizens and first responders have been placed in the parking lot.

The firefighters have been working on the Eaton Fire, which began last Tuesday about seven miles east of the stadium, and has grown to 14,000 acres.

Fortunately, the Rose Bowl hasn’t been directly impacted by the wildfires.

Still, there have been evacuation orders throughout the northeast area of Los Angeles County, including Pasadena.

Last Wednesday, a few food truck vendors were parked in the parking lot to help feed people impacted by the fires.

After the gestures were noticed on social media, people began bringing necessities items including food, water, toiletries, and other essentials.

What was once a food truck gathering turned the Rose Bowl parking lot into a donation center that has only increased in size.

The Eaton Fire is the second most destructive fire in California history.

The wildfires have claimed the fires of at least 24 people and destroyed more than 12,300 structures.

The Rose Bowl opened in 1922 and is the 16th biggest stadium in the world.

A Pasadena icon, it has hosted five Super Bowls – the third-most played at a single location.

The Rose Bowl hosts one of the most popular college football games each season.

It’s also the home of UCLA football.

The stadium isn’t expected to be at high risk of being directly impacted by the terrifying fires, according to National Public Radio.

The Rose Bowl Half Marathon and 5K scheduled for January 19 has been postponed, and a concert from The Weeknd on January 25 has also been postponed to a later date.
