I’m a former D1 college football star – I’ve won more than $25m playing poker and am going for glory in World Series

HE was a very talented football player growing up, but for the last decade he’s taken the poker world by storm.

Alex Foxen will be going for glory at this year’s World Series, having proved over the years to be one of the game’s very top players.

In his younger days, Foxen earned a scholarship to play tight end for the Boston College Eagles.

His ambition back then was to play in the NFL. But he spent much of his time on the bench with the team.

Naturally, for such a talented sportsperson, he also achieved high honors in other sports, including lacrosse.

It’s in poker where he’s really made his name however.

In 2012, at just 21, he won the first World Series of Poker circuit event that he entered in New Orleans.

He started taking poker more seriously when he graduated from university at the age of 23.

And in 2017, his made his first WSOP final table.

Foxen is the only ever two-time winner of the Global Poker Index Player of the Year.

He claimed the award, based on points accumulated in tournaments around the globe throughout the year, in 2018 and 2019.

And in 2022, he picked up his first World Series of Poker bracelet and more than $4.5 million in prize money.

It took his lifetime career earnings to more than $26.5 million.

His wife Kristen Bicknell is a brilliant poker player in her own eight, and she has three bracelets.

“As many as I can get,” Foxen said about chasing WSOP bracelets following his victory.

“I don’t have a specific number in my head that I’m going after.

“The first step is to try and catch Krissy.”

And talking earlier this year, Foxen was asked for his advice for players who wanted to make it in poker.

“Be obsessed with the game. Love the game,” he said.

“If you don’t love the game, you won’t make it.

“You have to want to be there every single day. You have to want to get better every day and love the process.

“You have to love the battle to reach being one of the best. Otherwise, the game is not for you.”
