‘I’m sick,’ fume Michigan State fans after controversial ruling on first play of college football season against FSU

MICHIGAN State fans have been left furious after a controversial review just seconds into their season opener.

After transferring from Oregon State in December, sophomore quarterback Aidan Chiles took to the field for the first time for Michigan State on Friday at Spartans Stadium.

Going for glory on his first play of the game, Chiles opted to throw it while under heavy pressure, targeting wideout Montorie Foster Jr.

Unfortunately for the Spartans, the ball bounced out of Foster’s hands as he fell backward, into those of Owls defensive back “Buggs” Kahzir Brown.

Despite Brown’s best effort to gain control of the ball while also getting his feet in bounds before momentum took him across the sideline, the initial ruling on the field was an incomplete pass.

However, after a review, this was overturned and deemed an interception.

To say this shocked many viewers at home would be an understatement, with furious fans flocking to X to register their opinions.

“No, it was not an interception. Replay messed this one up,” one said.

“That ball was never secured until hands over his head after he was out of bounds. Didn’t end up helping FAU so nothing came of it.”

A second simply commented, “I’m sick.”

Another added, “Lol not a pick, terrible review.”

While a fourth tweeted, “Literally no one should count this as an INT.”

Ultimately, the interception made no difference to the game with the Owls managing to drive all of one yard on the resulting series before punting.

Regardless, this won’t have been the dream start Chiles envisaged.

Speaking to reporters on August 23 about his upcoming debut, he was brimming with confidence.

“If you’re a betting person, take the over. That’s how I feel,” Chiles told reporters.
