On Saturday, Kelce was a guest on College Football GameDay, which was being hosted at Penn State.
He did his duties on the show and was later seen walking through a crowd of students while taking pictures and shaking hands.
However, one student was captured on video running up to Kelce and shouting things in his face about Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift.
“Kelce how does it feel that your brother is a f****t for dating Taylor Swift?” the student appeared to ask.
That set Kelce off, and he swiftly turned around to grab the student’s phone and smash it on the ground.
The video spread like wildfire, and Kelce was forced to address the altercation during Monday Night Football.
“In a heated moment, I decided to greet hate with hate,” Kelce said.
“I fell short this week.”
Kelce also said that he’s “not proud” of the altercation and that he “fell down to a level that I shouldn’t have.”
While it wasn’t a great look for Kelce, ESPN has already made it known that they won’t discipline the NFL legend for the altercation.
Fans were wildly in support of this move too, as many agreed with Kelce getting angry over the slurs hurled towards his brother.
“The guy was an a-hole. He got what he deserved and Kelce already apologized. Nobody cares about it,” one fan said.
“He did nothing wrong. I believed he showed restraint. Anyone else would have done much worse. Family first!” another fan said.
“He shouldn’t have done it, but apologizing and replacing the phone is enough for me,” a third fan said.
“He literally did nothing wrong. People can’t behave however they want without consequences,” a fourth fan said.
‘It was a short retirement!’
Jason Kelce didn’t stay retired in the NFL for long.
The former Philadelphia Eagles lineman called it quits after the 2023 season.
But he will be part of ESPN’s coverage on Monday Night Football in 2024.
Kelce will appear on Monday Night Countdown from 6pm-8pm ET every week as well as during the halftime show.
“Turns out, it was a short retirement!” he joked.
“ESPN was a consistent presence in our household growing up and the network helped shape who I am and my love of all sports.
“To now appear on that same screen is a full circle moment.
“And, I mean it’s freaking Monday Night Football! and I’m ready for some football.”
“I don’t think he needs to address it. Move on,” a fifth fan said.
While Kelce won’t face any discipline from ESPN, he might have some coming from the law.
Penn State police are reportedly investigating the incident between Kelce and the student.
The police department’s incident log has an entry detailing how an “officer observed a visitor damaging personal property.”
PSU public information officer Jacqueline Sheader confirmed to the Associated Press that the entry concerns Kelce’s confrontation with the student.
