Lucknow: The animal protection department of Lucknow Municipal Corporation fined six people under a dog card controls the run, collects Rs 33,200 on Saturday. Of this, Rs 30,000 came from fines for walking dogs without valid licenses and Rs 3,200 came from issuing four new licences.
The campaign received mixed reactions, with some pet owners quickly locking up their dogs or running away when they saw the team, and others displaying their valid licenses and vaccination records.
According to the LMC rules, unlicensed dog owners can be fined up to Rs 5,000 per dog, and pets can be confiscated if the rules are not followed.
Dog licenses can be obtained online through lmc.up.nic.in or at Lalbagh Municipal Headquarters. The fee is Rs 1,000 for foreign breeds and Rs 200 for domestic breeds.
Animal welfare officer Dr Abhinav Verma noted a decline in the number of licenses issued in recent years, with only 4,130 licenses granted so far in 2024-25, down from 5,600 in 2023-24 and 8,200 in 2022-23.
