Have you ever thought to yourself that if you were stranded in a dense forest away from city life, how would you get rescued or call the authorities for help? Well, you wouldn’t imagine but a man lost in the woods used an incredible technique to escape his tyranny of abandonment.
A man stranded in the northern Saskatchewan bush managed to devise his own rescue plan by cutting down four power poles. This resulted in a power outage for surrounding areas, affecting several hundred residents for over 30 hours, but it eventually led to his discovery and safe return.
The incident began when the man encountered bad weather while boating on a lake, and was stranded in the dense forest with no means of communication, he realized the gravity of his situation and knew he needed help. Luckily he had an ax with him and he came up with a clever plan.
Realizing that downed power lines would prompt an immediate response from the power company, he began cutting down nearby power poles. He knew that the power outage would ensure that someone would come to investigate the power outage. When he fell to the fourth pole, the surrounding communities were plunged into darkness, prompting a quick response from SaskPower.
According to reports available online, SaskPower spokesman James Parker said, “He was found under his boat in a very distressed condition. Basically, he had been stranded for a number of days and was desperate for people to know where he was.”
When members of the SaskPower crew arrived on scene to verify the damage, they encountered the guy who had taken cover under his boat. His discomfort was clear, but the little quick thinking and clever skill he used had worked.
He later revealed that the cutting of the power poles had been an act of utter desperation. With nothing else to distract him, he figured downed power lines could get the utility company going. As unconventional as it may be, this helped him save his life.
