Mapua MDC encourages working students to acquire an online technical degree

RAPID technological advances are rapidly changing the way entire industries operate to the point that there is hardly any doubt about reshaping the skills needed in the workforce.

Many professionals must consider upgrading technology to keep their jobs relevant and thriving in the changing job market.

The stakes are even higher for working students who juggle work and study to gain better employment opportunities.

“With the rapid pace of technology shaping the job landscape today and in the future, MMDC is resolute in our mission to provide our students with the skills that will give them a leg up in their careers in 2025 and beyond,” said MMDC Instructional System Design Director Noel Torregoza.

“MMDC strives to be at the forefront of all these changes as we look for the most in-demand skills from top employers and ensure that we steer our students in the right direction to secure rewarding jobs here and abroad,” he added.

According to the MMDC, having relevant technical skills ensures workers better career success in 2025 and beyond.

“Among the most important skills in 2025 is digital competence. In the past year, we have seen industries such as retail, finance and consumer technology integrate advanced digital tools, including artificial intelligence (AI), into their operations and products,” Torregoza shared.

“Going forward, more companies are expected to institutionalize the use of technology to streamline processes and improve productivity. Employees adept at leveraging digital tools, including AI models and rapid engineering, will add significant value to their organizations,” he added.

This includes enhancing learning experiences with AI and equipping individuals to use it effectively for tasks in various domains.

Although often perceived as a highly technical discipline, data analytics drives strategic decision-making and drives efficiency across industries.

Torregoza said organizations now have a clear understanding of how data can be a powerful driver in achieving their business goals.

“By sifting through all the information, data analysts can help companies discover insightful customer behavior patterns for personalized customer service and targeted marketing campaigns, identify operational bottlenecks to optimize resources, and leverage new market trends that will impact product development. If you have strong data analytics skills, you will be highly sought after in the labor market,” he noted.

The director of MMDC Instructional System Design emphasized that trust is an important currency in a technology-driven world.

“All industries will need professionals familiar with cybersecurity best practices to protect sensitive company and customer data while defending against new attacks from increasingly sophisticated cybercriminals,” he revealed.

“In today’s landscape, where just one data breach can have far-reaching consequences, organizations cannot afford to compromise standards or risk compounding their exposure with ill-prepared staff,” he said.

MMDC sees the future of labor markets as heavily influenced by technology, just as it is now.

Choosing an information technology (IT)-focused degree allows students to gain that competitive edge after graduation.

MMDC offers two important IT programs.

The development-focused program, with a focus on software development and network and cyber security, trains students to develop and analyze cutting-edge software solutions and identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities.

The business-focused program, with tracks in data analytics, marketing technology and entrepreneurship technology, focuses on the strategic application and implementation of technology in business and across sectors.

MMDC takes it further by offering an IT education through accessible, progressive and flexible learning programs that focus on real-world applications, case studies and collaborative projects instead of subjecting students to traditional exams.

“MMDC is a fully online educational institution designed to enable working students to pursue their studies without sacrificing their work. We understand the journey and struggle of Filipino working students, who are incredibly motivated to achieve their goals. MMDC hopes to provide them opportunity to further help them build the skills needed to excel in relevant fields,” explained Torregoza.

For MMDC, a truly future-ready workforce must have a strong foundation in technical expertise and adaptable soft skills.

“The knowledge economy we live in today rewards those who combine technical skills with a strong ability to continuously learn and cultivate meaningful human connections,” Torregoza said.

He explained that as the lifespan of professional knowledge is getting shorter, the key to staying relevant lies in perpetual learning, whether it’s returning to school, attending workshops, obtaining certifications or engaging in self-study.

To further advance careers, MMDC points out that emotional intelligence, effective communication and ethics are widely recognized as cornerstones of leadership as processes become increasingly automated and workplaces deal with digital divides.

“In an increasingly digital world, the few who have a strong desire to adapt to the times and who can cultivate genuine connections with others – even through a screen – will be valued,” shared Torregoza.

MMDC prepares students for the technologically forward-thinking workplace and empowers them to thrive and lead in the future.
