MEGA Millions has promised players some significant changes next year.
The lottery game is one of the most popular and lucrative in the United States, with several jackpot wins in its history of over $1 billion.

Starting in April 2025, there’ll be even more “enhancements” for players to help them win just as big, per a Monday press release.
Joshua Johnston, Lead Director of the Mega Millions Consortium, said he hopes the update will further excite Americans to play.
“We are creating a game that both our existing players and people new to Mega Millions will love and get excited about playing,” Johnston noted in the release.
“We expect more billion-dollar jackpots than ever before, meaning creating more billionaires and many more millionaires as the jackpots climb, plus this game will continue the important legacy of supporting great causes everywhere Mega Millions is played.”
Since the last changes made to the game in 2017, Mega Millions claims to make around three Americans millionaires per week on average.
Mega Millions emphasized eight crucial benefits of the newest “mega overhaul.”
CHANGE COMING
First, players would have improved odds to win jackpots.
The current odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are about one in 302 million.
It’s unclear exactly how Mega Millions intends to prove those numbers, but mathematicians have disagreed on whether there’s a way players can improve chances on their own.
The lottery game also said it would implement “bigger jackpots more frequently” and have “larger starting jackpots,” per the release.
Those jackpots would also grow faster than before, further improving the value of what players can win in 2025.
Of the improvements, one of the most interesting for players is a new built-in multiplier included for every play.
Mega Millions said the multiplier will be “automatically improving every non-jackpot win by 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or [even] 10X.”
Those who match all five white balls can now win up to $10 million as well, starting in April 2025.

There’ll also be no more “breakeven prizes” on any winning play.
That means any win will always make the player more than the cost of the ticket.
Unfortunately, the ticket cost is where the final of the new updates lies.
Starting after April next year, Mega Millions tickets will cost $5 per play.
A price bump that hasn’t been seen since the game started over two decades ago in 2002.
Still, with the prospect of never breaking even on a win, it’s likely Mega Millions hopes this will get players to pay the few dollars extra anyway.
