Meryl Streep working on The Devil Wears Prada sequel 18 year after original as critics rage ‘leave it alone!’

MERYL Streep has been linked to a The Devil Wears Prada Sequel 18 years after the original film premiered, and it’s drawing backlash.

Fans of the popular film, which debuted in theaters in June 2006, don’t believe a sequel is necessary.

Multiple outlets have confirmed that The Devil Wears Prada sequel is in the early stages, Puck News revealed on Monday.

Meryl, 75, is reportedly returning to the film, reprising her role as Runway editor Miranda Priestly.

Emily Blunt, who played Meryl’s character’s assistant is also reportedly set to return.

Anne Hathaway, who played Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada, has not yet been confirmed.

Original producer Wendy Finerman and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna are both attached to the film, Variety reported.

There is no release date at this time.

A synopsis for the film reveals, “The groundbreaking sequel is set to focus on Miranda, as she faced the decline of the once prosperous magazine’s publishing business.

“In fact, the only person who can bail her out is her former assistant, Blunt’s character Emily Charlton, who is now a high-powered executive at a luxury fashion group.”

SKEPTICAL STARS

Anne, 41, previously spoke about why she never pushed for a The Devil Wears Prada sequel.

“I don’t think a continuation of that story is probably ever gonna happen,” she said in a March interview with E! News.

“The reason that movie felt so special was that we were a team and we did that work, but really it’s the love that everybody pours to it.”

The Idea of You star reunited with co-stars Meryl and Emily, 41, during the 2022 SAG Awards.

She noted at the time that while she might be skeptical about reprising her role in The Devil Wears Prada, she had some idea where the story might pick back up.

“I think Andy is in Paris and I think that she is writing for a wonderful French women’s magazine,” she told E! News.

“I think – I think she’s a staff writer and she speaks French fluently. And I don’t think she’s married, but she might have a child or two. I think she’s pretty fab.”
