A missile launched from Yemen landed in the Tel Aviv area early Saturday after air defenses failed to intercept it, the Israeli military said.
Several people with light injuries were evacuated for medical treatment after the missile fell in the Tel Aviv-Jaffa area, a representative for the military said in a statement on Telegram.
The strike came two days after Israel attacked Houthi targets in Yemen. Those airstrikes on Thursday were launched hours after Israel said it had intercepted a missile from Yemen.
Air-raid sirens had blared across the Tel Aviv area on Saturday morning, sending people rushing to shelters.
Magen David Adom, an Israeli emergency rescue service, said in a statement that at least 14 people had been injured by glass fragments and were being transferred to nearby hospitals.
For more than a year, the Iran-backed, Yemen-based Houthi militia has been attacking cargo vessels in the Red Sea in a campaign that it says is in defense of the Palestinians under Israeli bombardment in Gaza. It has also launched some missile strikes on Israeli territory.
In response to the Houthi attacks on Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday that Israel might take further action to weaken Iran-backed groups.
Israel has waged war against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, both armed groups backed by Iran, since October 2023 in response to a deadly Hamas incursion that month. In November, Israel agreed to a cease-fire with Hezbollah after destroying much of its leadership.
