A tragic incident unfolded when two young employees, returning from a company party, collided their motorcycle into a parked six-wheeler truck, resulting in one death and another injury. The accident occurred at 3.30am today in Pathum Thani.
The crash took place on the outbound side of the Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road in the Lam Phak Kut area of Thanyaburi. Police Lieutenant Colonel Yosawat Srilapat, the investigating officer at Thanyaburi Police Station, received the report and swiftly arrived at the scene alongside volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation.
Upon arrival, the police discovered a Honda Wave motorcycle which had collided with the rear of a six-wheeler truck registered in Bangkok. Nearby was the body of 26 year old Phongsakorn, the motorcycle’s driver.
His companion, 20 year old Piyapat, who was riding pillion, sustained minor injuries and displayed signs of intoxication. The driver of the six-wheeler, 48 year old Witoon, was present at the scene.
Piyapat recounted that after attending a company party in Lam Luk Ka’s Khlong 4, he and his friend decided to continue drinking at a nearby karaoke bar. They then embarked on their motorcycle journey back to their accommodation in Khlong 9, Thanyaburi.
Piyapat admitted to being asleep on the motorcycle for most of the journey and only awoke to find his friend had crashed into the truck.
Witoon explained that he had parked his truck on the roadside to relieve himself when the accident happened. He was on his way to refuel at a petrol station in Khlong 9 before heading to his workplace on King Kaew Road.
Witoon stated that he had not yet exited his vehicle when he heard the loud crash at the back of his truck. He promptly checked the situation and immediately contacted the police upon discovering the crash.
Pol. Lt. Col. Yosawat mentioned that initial photographs of the scene were taken for evidence. He stated that both the truck driver and the injured motorcyclist would be called in for further questioning, reported KhaoSod.
The deceased’s body would undergo a post-mortem examination at the Thammasat University Rangsit Centre’s Forensic Science Institute to establish the cause of death.
