A tragic accident occurred yesterday when a young man, riding his motorcycle home from work, collided with a ten-wheel truck and died instantly. His grieving parents fainted upon seeing his body, while the truck driver was left in shock.
The incident took place on the Uthai-Phachi road in the Uthai district of Ayutthaya province. Police Lieutenant Phusit Pradapet revealed that the accident happened around 9pm, yesterday, December 19. Emergency services, including the Ayutthaya Ruam Jai Foundation, responded swiftly to the scene.
They discovered a Hino 10-wheel truck, carrying pre-cast concrete structures, parked on the roadside. The rear of the truck bore the brunt of the collision, and a Honda Wave motorcycle lay damaged in the middle of the road.
The deceased was identified as 22 year old Jakrit. His body bore severe head injuries, with parts of his body scattered across the road.
His black helmet was shattered, with remnants of flesh still attached. Witnesses described a devastating scene, compounded by the immense grief of Jakrit’s parents, 53 year old Thawatchai, and his wife. Upon arriving at the scene and recognising their son, they collapsed, overwhelmed by the loss, and required assistance from officials to regain composure.
Mongkol, the 28 year old truck driver, recounted the harrowing events while still visibly shaken. He explained that he was transporting the concrete structures from Phachi district, with another truck, towards Chon Buri.
Mongkol said he had parked on the roadside, with hazard lights on, to check the vehicle and secure the load.
“After parking for a while, I heard a loud crash at the rear of my truck, causing it to shake. Looking in the rearview mirror, I saw a motorcycle had crashed into the back and someone had died. I was shocked as I had never experienced anything like this while driving a truck.”
Police are currently investigating the accident’s cause. Initial examinations focused on the damage to both vehicles and the crash site. Mongkol has been taken in for questioning to determine the circumstances leading to the collision, reported KhaoSod.
Meanwhile, Jakrit’s body has been transported to the Institute of Forensic Science in Pathum Thani for an autopsy, before being returned to the family for funeral rites according to their religious traditions.
