My ex-girlfriend has been doing everything she can to damage my relationship with my kids

DEAR DEIDRE: MY ex-girlfriend has been doing everything she can to damage my relationship with my kids since we broke up.

I’m 32, she’s 29 and we were together for four years.

We have a two-year-old daughter together and another one on the way.

We’d been trying to make our relationship work for months, but were both miserable and it was obvious to me that we’d be better off apart, so I split up with her.

I thought she would understand, but she lost her temper and kicked me out of the house.

Ever since trying to co-parent with her has been like pulling teeth.

I’m lucky if she even lets me see my daughter, and even when she does she insists it has to be under her supervision.

To make matters worse, she is refusing to involve me in any part of her pregnancy.

I’ve offered to drive and accompany her to the doctor’s appointments, but she keeps insisting that I made my bed, so I should lie in it.

While I know we’re not together, I still want to be involved, but she is doing everything in her power to push me away.

I’m worried sick that I’ll be shut out of my children’s lives completely and I’ll have no way of stopping it.

DEIDRE SAYS: Your ex-girlfriend is clearly hurt and trying to take it out on you in the only way she knows how – through your children.

Try to have a serious conversation with her and tell her that while she may not want you around, your kids deserve to have their dad involved in their lives.

I’m sending you my support pack When Parents Fall Out that explains their feelings and needs.

If she refuses, you can find out about your legal rights through Families Need Fathers (fnf.org.uk, 0300 0300 363).
