Chhath Puja is a significant festival in Hinduism dedicated to the worship of Sun God and Chhathi Maiya. It is mainly celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Nepal. This festival is a four-day strict fast. People, who fast during Chhath festival (vrati), offer arghya to the Sun God and pray for the happiness, prosperity and health of the family. Chhath Puja will be observed from 5 November to 8 November in the year 2024.
The extra ingredients used in Chhath Puja include thekua, coconut, sugarcane, incense sticks, seasonal fruits, and soup. During puja, the vratis decorate prasad and fruits in a bamboo basket and go to the ghat and worship the Sun God. The Milk and water are used to make arghya for the Sun.
Chhath Puja, besides talking about religious significance, also speaks about the message regarding environmental cleanliness as well as the saving of water sources. In this festival, people worship either at the banks of the Ganges River or any other water source; therefore, it contributes to the cleanliness as well as the conservation of these resources. According to religion, it is believed that Chhath Puja brings happiness and prosperity in the family and bestows long life upon the children.
