The NBA is cancelling the game as a winter storm blasted through Atlanta on Friday.

That storm left the area covered in snow and ice ahead of the game.

The Rockets-Hawks game was initially meant to be played on Saturday night.

The NBA said it made the decision “to prioritize the safety of the players, fans and staff due to the severe weather and hazardous icy conditions in the Atlanta area.”

The Rockets had already landed in Atlanta by the time the game was postponed.

The rescheduled date of the game will be announced at a later time by the NBA.

While winter weather is postponing games on the East Coast, wildfires have caused games to be delayed on the West Coast.

The Saturday game between the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs at Crypto.com Arena has been postponed.

The game between the Charlotte Hornets and LA Clippers at the Intuit Dome has also been pushed back.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick confirmed that he lost his home in the wildfires.

“I’m not sure I’ve wept or wailed like that in several years,” Redick said.

“I was not prepared for what I saw. It’s complete devastation and destruction.

“I had to go a different way to the house, but I went through most of the village, and it’s all gone.

“I don’t think you can ever prepare yourself for something like that. Our home is gone.”

Redick said he lost everything in the house fire.

New rights deal

The NBA signed an 11-year deal with three networks for the league’s rights from the 2025-26 season.

And there will be no games on TNT for the first time since the network launched in 1988.

The Walt Disney Company will continue to show the league with 80 regular-season games across ESPN and ABC.

They will also show around 18 playoff games from the first and second round, a Conference Finals series for 10 of the 11 years, and remain the home of the NBA Finals.

NBC will return as an NBA broadcaster for the first time since 2002.

The network will show up to 100 games per season across it’s channels and Peacock streaming service.

It will also be the home of NBA All-Star and show approximately 28 playoff games from the first and second round.

NBC will show one Conference Finals Series for six of the 11 years, rotating with new broadcaster Amazon Prime.

Amazon will show 66 NBA regular-season games including one on Black Friday.

The streaming service is also the home of the latter stages of the NBA Cup and the entire Play-In Tournament.

Prime will also broadcast around one third of the playoff games in the first and second round.

“Everything that we owned that was of any importance to us in almost 20 years together as a couple and 10 years of parenting was in that house,” Redick said.

“There’s certain things that you can’t replace, that will never be replaced.

“The material stuff is whatever. My family and I were processing the self side, the individual side, of losing your home, and you don’t ever want to wish that on anybody.

“It’s an awful feeling to lose your home.”

The rescheduled dates of the Lakers and Clippers games will be announced at a later date.
