NBA makes final punishment decision on Anthony Edwards after his ‘obscene’ gesture during game towards refs


ANTHONY EDWARDS has been hit with a $50,000 fine for making “obscene gestures” towards a game official.

The NBA announced the punishment before Minnesota’s 120-106 win at Washington.

He was fined due to his conduct with 1:26 left in the third quarter of the Timberwolves’ 127-125 loss to Memphis on Saturday.

Edwards went onto score 41 points in Monday’s win.

“I made a careless, young, dumb mistake, shooting birds,” Edwards admitted.

“That has nothing to do with the refs at all. That’s all me mentally making a dumb mistake. I won’t do it again.”

The two-time All-Star has been fined a total of $285,000 by the league this season for five different behavioral reasons – mostly language.

Edwards was docked $100,000 in December for profanity during a live TV interview,

Another $75,000 was handed over for a profane public criticism of the officiating and $25,000 for profanity in a media interview.

In November, he was issued a $35,000 fine for making an obscene gesture on the court.

Edwards also received his NBA-leading ninth technical foul of the season while on the bench.

“I ain’t getting no more techs, I ain’t saying nothing else.”


Edwards finished last season with 15 technical fouls.

the 23-year-old is in the first year of a five-year, $244.6million contract, which runs through the 2028-29 season.

According to figures from Spotrac, the Timberwolves star will earn $42.2m over the course of this campaign alone.
