- New information about the Nintendo Switch 2 has reportedly leaked
- It suggests that the name of the console could simply be “Nintendo Switch 2”
- It also supports claims of magnetic Joy-Con controllers
New leaked information about the Nintendo Switch 2 may give us fresh details about the upcoming console.
As reported by The Vergea Reddit user with the screen name “NextHandheld” reportedly got hold of one Nintendo Switch 2 retail unit. The outlet claims to have seen two photos that can verify this fact, one showing a potential Switch 2 dock and the other showing the console’s track rail and kickstand hinge.
The user claims that the console could be announced as early as January. This would be consistent with Nintendo’s previous confirmation that a The Switch’s successor will be announced “‘within this financial year’” – that is, before March 31, 2025.
The image of the doll can also give us our first real idea of the brand of the system. It reportedly has a logo that looks like that of the original Nintendo Switch, albeit with the number two on it suggesting it could formally be called “Nintendo Switch 2”.
According to the Reddit user, the doll doesn’t have and more ports than its Nintendo Switch OLED equivalent. There are two USB-A connectors, an HDMI port, an Ethernet port and a USB-C connector presumably for power.
The images also appear to confirm the long-standing rumor that Nintendo Switch 2’s controllers will be attached with magnets. A large button on the back of the Joy-Con will be used to remove them. If you want an idea of what it might look like, Third-party accessory company Dbrand recently shared a 3D render that potentially offers an early look at the handheld console.
In addition to all this, the user also claims that the controls will be more durable Hall effect thumbsticks – finally eliminating the dreaded Joy-Con drift. There’s also the issue of the console’s overworked stand, which is said to have a U-shape.
That’s an awful lot of information, most of which seems pretty reasonable. Still, you should remember that the source is still an anonymous Reddit account and while they may have some convincing images, this is nowhere near a formal announcement so should be taken with a grain of salt. We’ll have to wait for some official reveal to see if this latest set of claims is accurate.
