The body of a newborn was discovered wrapped in a red towel and abandoned in a women’s restroom at a local market in Pluak Daeng, Rayong.
Police received the report at 9am today, December 20, and upon inspection, found no visible injuries on the infant, believed to have died approximately one day before.
The unsettling discovery was made in the third stall of the women’s bathrooms within the market located in a department store in Pluak Daeng subdistrict, Pluak Daeng district, Rayong province. Local police coordinated with a medical examiner from Pluak Daeng Hospital and rescue workers to conduct a thorough investigation at the site.
Upon arrival, police officers and medical personnel found a plastic bag containing the red towel, which concealed the body of a newborn girl. The initial examination suggested that the infant had been dead for around one day, though no external injuries were detected. The body was then transported to Pluak Daeng Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The investigation involved questioning Thian, a cleaner who discovered the body. Thian explained that during the morning cleaning routine, a bundled red towel was noticed inside a plastic bag, which had been spotted the previous evening.
Initially mistaken for discarded clothes, the cleaner decided to examine it today, leading to the shocking revelation of the newborn’s body inside. The cleaner promptly informed the supervisor, who contacted the police immediately.
“I thought it was just old clothes someone had thrown away, but when I opened it, I was shocked to find a newborn inside.”
As part of the investigation, the police are interviewing people who were near the restroom at the time the body was discovered. They are also reviewing CCTV footage to identify the person responsible for abandoning the infant. There is a suspicion that the mother may have delivered the baby prematurely, and upon the infant’s death, left the body in fear of legal repercussions.
