Robinson is one of the NFL’s best offensive players, but the league determined he went to far with a recent play.
In the Atlanta Falcons’ final game of the season against the Carolina Panthers, it was determined that Robinson led with his helmet on a run.
The run, which came early in the fourth quarter of the game netted the Falcons a first down.
However, it also left Robinson with a $22,511 fine of unnecessary roughness.
NFL fans weren’t happy about this fine and shared their rage on social media.
“So he was fined for playing football? Got it,” one fan said.
“NFL short on funds or something?” another fan said.
“NO FUN LEAGUE,” a third fan said.
“Everyone is now fined for playing football!” a fourth fan said.
“Flag football gonna be proposed soon,” a fifth fan said.
Robinson wasn’t the only player to receive a large fine in the final week of the season.
Kyle Juszczyk of the San Francisco 49ers received a five-figure penalty from the NFL as well.
The league also determined that Juszczyk was worthy of an unnecessary roughness penalty for the use of his helmet.
He was fined $16,619 for the infraction, and it was his second fine of the season.
Juszczyk was fined on November 16 for a low block that went uncalled against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
What happens to the fine money?
THE NFL regularly fines athletes tens of thousands of dollars every week during the season.
But where does the money go?
The NFL claims about $4 million a year has been used to support worthy causes since 2011.
According to the NFL operations website, “The fines collected are donated to the Professional Athletes Foundation to support Legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game.”
That fine set him back $11,817.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens also found himself with a five-figure fine after Week 18.
He was determined to receive an unnecessary roughness fine for grabbing an opposing player’s facemask.
That penalty was worth $22,511.
Pickens was fined a whopping 10 times by the NFL this season.
