A DAD has told of his horror after a washing machine exploded in his home “like a bomb”.
The faulty device caused huge damage after it blew up in the utility room of David Bennet’s home.
The father-of-three, of Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, said: “It was a bit of a shock. It was like a bomb went off, like a grenade blew up in the middle of the washing machine.
“I’m relieved that none of us were in the room at the time.”
David bought the New World machine from retailer Argos for around £250 in 2021 and that it had worked without issues since.
But on December 11 it hit big trouble on the second of the two loads that he ran.
He said: “The roof had been blown up and shattered. The drum was mangled and sticking out of the top. There was shrapnel and debris everywhere. Part of it had blown across the room.
“Thankfully I was in the other room as I normally hang around during the final spin.”
David said he has been in contact with Argos and is awaiting an engineer to assess the machine.
He added: “I don’t think they are going to be able to fix it. They said it was a potential danger.”
Argos said it had started an immediate investigation and that they had not received no other similar complaints.
A spokeswoman for the firm said: “Safety is our highest priority. We have not received any similar complaints about this product and are in touch with the customer to urgently investigate.”
