The NASCAR Xfinity Series National Debt Relief 250 at Martinsville Speedway took a sharp turn when an aggressive move by Sam Mayer resulted in Parker Retzlaff slamming into the wall, setting off a cascade of collisions in Stage 1.
With seven laps remaining before the end of the stage, Mayer pushed Retzlaff, who had begun the race in the pole position, sending him off the track and starting a multi-car wreck.
As Mayer’s car pushed into Retzlaff’s from behind, the unsteady contact propelled Retzlaff into the outside wall, with Josh Williams striking Mayer from behind and subsequently being hit by Chandler Smith. The collision left Retzlaff’s vehicle extensively damaged, adding to his season’s woes with an 11th DNF, while Mayer’s car sustained minor damage.
Retzlaff candidly voiced his frustration over the team radio:
“He had my f***ing tires off the ground and he drove me through the Turn 1 wall,” as reported by Jordan Bianchi from The Athletic.

Even when reviewing the replay, where it became apparent that Williams might have contributed to the incident, Retzlaff’s irritation was palpable.
Despite claiming two poles for Jordan Anderson Racing this season, uncertainties loom over Retzlaff’s 2025 plans. His struggles with maintaining consistent performances, coupled with frequent DNFs, pose significant implications for his future in NASCAR.
Retzlaff has also taken to social media to share his annoyance about the situation. He posted:
“Great car means nothing now. Get jacked up coming into the restart zone so I can’t get going and then drove into the turn 1 wall! Thank you to @FunkAway and @JARnascar for the great car and thanks to the 1 and 11! Goes with the rest of the season. See you in PHX.”
