Mahomes was replaced by Carson Wentz in the fourth quarter of the Chiefs‘ Week 15 game.
He threw two touchdown passes in a 21-7 win over the Cleveland Browns.
But he was replaced by Carson Wentz late in the game.
Mahomes stood on the sidelines with his teammates to watch the conclusion of the win.
He was visibly limping as he left the field in a big worry for the Chiefs.
Kansas City improved to 13-1 for the season with their win in Cleveland.
They are already sure of their place in the AFC playoffs and are in pole position to lock up the No. 1 seed.
But the injury to Mahomes in mid-December will be a worry for Andy Reid with the playoffs approaching.
If Kansas City does manage to secure a first-round bye, they would not be in playoff action until the weekend of January 18-19 for the division round.
The Chiefs are chasing a third Super Bowl win in a row – a feat that’s never been achieved.
They have been hit by injury problems on offence all year.
Mahomes has seen a number of his weapons go down – including receivers Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice.
Brown is due back from injury next weekend having not played since his free agency signing in the off-season.
Running back Isiah Pacheco has also spent large parts of the season on injured reserve.
He fractured a bone in his foot in Week 2 and didn’t return until Black Friday.
But an injury to Mahomes would be the biggest problem of the lot for Andy Reid’s side.
