Gunmen ambushed and shot a 52 year old police officer from Mayo Police Station in Pattani while he was riding his motorcycle home after prayers. The attack occurred in the evening but Abdulhadi, despite sustaining injuries, managed to return fire, causing the assailants to flee.

The incident unfolded yesterday, November 4 around 8.30pm on a village road in Moo 1, Ban Chamu, Pitu Mudi, Yarang district, Pattani province. Abdulhadi Yurae was transported to the hospital and initial reports indicate that his condition is stable.

Preliminary investigations revealed that as Abdulhadi completed his prayers and began his journey back home on his motorcycle, he was overtaken by two men riding a Honda Wave motorcycle. The pillion rider fired a shot aimed at Abdulhadi’s chest.

Fortunately, the bullet struck a mobile phone in his left chest pocket, which may have mitigated the impact. The assailants then fired a second shot, which hit his cheek and exited through the other side, reported KhaoSod.

In a brave response, Abdulhadi drew his service weapon and fired back at the attackers. It is believed that one of the gunmen may have been injured in the exchange. Following the retaliatory shots, the assailants fled the scene. Police are currently intensifying their efforts to investigate the incident and apprehend the perpetrators to bring them to justice.
