A pump attendant in Uttar Pradesh insisted on following the “no helmet, no petrol” rule when a cyclist came to fill up with fuel. The attendant refused to give fuel to the motorcyclist but this resulted in the fuel pump losing power.
The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district after the Yogi Adityanath government asked district officials to enforce the ‘no helmet, no petrol’ rule to reduce road accidents. Because of this, petrol pump owners have been asked to refuse fuel to cyclists who are not wearing helmets.
When a lineman in the power supply department came to fill up his bike at the gas pump, he was not wearing a helmet, according to the attendant. The petrol pump staff had been told to refuse fuel to any cyclist not wearing a helmet, he said, adding: “Our owner informed us of the District Magistrate’s order that no one should get fuel if he/she is not wearing a helmet. When the lineman came, we refused to refuel his bike. He left and disconnected the power supply.”
The power outage shocked the petrol pump staff although the power supply was restored after 20 minutes. The owner of the petrol pump has filed a police report.
In the CCTV footage, the lineman can be seen stopping his bike near the transformer, climbing a pole and cutting the power line. As he climbs down, people are seen approaching the transformer.
