Rangers and Celtic ‘enter talks with Women’s Super League bosses over move to England’ – even though neither top league

RANGERS and Celtic have entered talks with Women’s Super League bosses over a potential move to the English game, it’s being claimed.

That’s despite neither currently sitting top of the Scottish Women‘s Premier League.

Instead, that spot belongs to Glasgow City – with Celtic currently sitting back in FIFTH.

But the lure of attracting the Old Firm south of the border is understandable, in both the women and the men‘s game.

And now The Times reports that preliminary discussions have taken place with Nikki Doucet, the chief executive of the company that has taken over the running of the WSL

She’s exploring ways to expand the women’s game, including learning from the history of men’s football.

They say that possibilities such as the involvement of Celtic and Rangers and a closed league like the NWSL in America is being considered.

Four Women’s Championship teams – Bristol City, Southampton, Birmingham City and Newcastle United – have a pilot scheme in operation allowing fans to drink alcohol in the stands.

The Scottish Women’s Premier League was formed in it’s current structure in 2022.

Both Old Firm clubs have significantly increased their support and funding after Scotland‘s qualification for the 2019 Women’s World Cup – but as mentioned NEITHER top the league.

Celtic won the league last season but finished bottom of their Champions League group in their first year in the competition – without collecting a single point.

Reports claimed Rangers had held informal discussions with the FA over whether it could be feasible to join and those conversations have continued with the Women’s Professional Leagues Limited (WPLL), who took ownership of the WSL and Women’s Championship in August.

The Times say that the WPLL, the Scottish Women’s Premier League, Rangers and Celtic declined to comment and no official approach to the Scottish FA, which would have to agree to any proposal.
