RANGERS fans – and players – will be hoping 2025 turns out a bit better than most of 2024.
The most recent disappointment of the year was losing in the Premier Sports Cup final to Celtic on penalties but nonetheless, the Light Blues are approaching the festive period in high spirits.
Philippe Clement‘s men could make it five consecutive league wins tomorrow if they beat St Mirren in Paisley and with the Hoops having dropped points at the weekend against Dundee United, the outlook is slightly merrier than it was this time a week ago.
The Ibrox club released a Christmas-themed video to wish their fans all the best for the big day and a happy New Year.
Supporters couldn’t get enough of it either, in particular the antics of two players who stole the show on camera – without even trying.
The club had players from both the men’s and women‘s squad take part in the video, plus Clement to deliver a Christmas message.
As is often the case when footballers are asked to recite lines for the camera, it doesn’t always go to plan.
Several players messed up their script or were a bit too nervous to say a whole lot.
However, the unassuming Dujon Sterling and Nicolas Raskin were the stars of the show.
Nicola Docherty kicks things off by asking “What have I to say?” whilst the shy Ross McCausland proclaims “I’m not doing it, I’m just saying Merry Christmas then I’m going!”
Fans would have loved Jefte and Danilo‘s Portuguese touch to their festive wishes too.
Clement says: “Hi fans, I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
“I hope you have really good times with the family, cosy times together, and also good moments with us on the pitch, because it’s going to be busy next couple of weeks.
“I hope to get all the support like the last couple of weeks to give this energy to the team, and that we can give you a lot of nice presents in the next couple of weeks.”
But the video fittingly ends with Sterling and Raskin.
Sterling remarks to the camera “Merry Christmas from all of us at Rangers“, and puts his arm around a rather bewildered-looking Raskin.
The Belgian continues to stare blankly at the camera and doesn’t quite know what to do, despite Sterling’s gestures.
After a few moments of awkwardness, his team mate turns to him and shouts “Say it in French!”, and eventually he plays ball accordingly.
Upon seeing the video, one fan simply remarked “Dujon” with a laughing emoji and another said “It’s great to see the smiles and happiness.”
