Hyderabad: Traffic accidents in the city have decreased drastically in the year 2024. Compared to 335 human lives lost in 2023, the number of traffic accidents this year amounted to 227.
City Police Chief, CV Anand said that the traffic police take up special drives to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians regularly and the sustained efforts have resulted in road accidents coming down in the city.
Checking on drunken driving, he said the police had booked 52,080 cases against drunken drivers during the year compared to 43,940 cases last year. “Surprise checks will be conducted at various times in the coming days to check cases of drunk driving,” he said.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), P Vishwa Prasad, said the police are putting up boards to create awareness about the consequences of drunk driving near bars and pubs. “A majority of those arrested for drunk driving are two-wheeler drivers in the city,” he said.
