A South Korean national, sought for his alleged involvement in a significant illegal gambling operation, was apprehended in a luxurious condominium in Pattaya. Thai immigration officials executed the arrest yesterday, December 25, identifying the suspect as 33 year old Jung. The arrest occurred at a high-end condo in Pattaya, where he was found with passports from South Korea and Vanuatu.
Jung was a wanted individual under an arrest warrant issued by South Korean police. He was reportedly linked to multiple illegal online gambling networks, including Top Plus Bet (top-911.com), B-Plus, Dynamisty, and Togenot.
These networks have been operating unlawfully for over five years in South Korea. They maintained 80 bank accounts to facilitate money laundering, with transactions exceeding 592.6 billion won, equivalent to approximately 15 billion baht (US$438 million).
The suspect was allegedly in charge of supervising the network’s operations, managing user databases, and distributing funds within the group. After the police took down these networks, Jung fled to Thailand to escape arrest, reported The Pattaya News.
During the arrest, officials confiscated computers, mobile phones, and other electronic devices. It was also discovered that Jung had overstayed his visa in Thailand. Subsequently, he has been detained and is awaiting deportation.
In related news, police from the Cyber Crime Division conducted a raid on three locations connected to the OK2D online gambling network in Chiang Rai, resulting in the arrest of eight administrators. The operation, believed to be linked with three other prominent websites, involves over 200,000 players and a financial turnover exceeding 1 billion baht.
High-ranking officials, including Trirong Phiwphan, the Cyber Crime Division Commissioner, led the search on December 24, with a court warrant in Chiang Rai. The first location, a residence in Village 4, Ban Du subdistrict, Mueang district, saw the arrest of four women, 24 year old Chanantida, 23 year old Waranya, 24 year old Chutima, and 20 year old Aranyarat. Seized items included four computers, 10 mobile phones, and three barcode scanners.
