A tragic motorcycle accident in Lopburi resulted in the death of a 14 year old girl while a 22 year old and a 17 year old sustained serious injuries. The incident occurred when their motorcycle collided with a six-wheel slide truck.
At 9.05pm yesterday, December 17, police in Lopburi’s Tha Hin district received reports of a serious accident at the three-way intersection on Highway 4033, approximately 200 metres from the Tha Hin police station.
The collision involved a blue Honda Wave 125 motorcycle carrying three passengers and a white Isuzu slide truck. Upon arrival, emergency services found three unconscious individuals on the road.
The deceased, a 14 year old girl, Nam, suffered severe injuries to her face and head. The injured were 22 year old Peranut, who was driving the motorcycle and sustained a broken left leg, and 17 year old Thanakorn, who was riding pillion and also suffered a broken left leg. Both were rushed to Phra Narai Maharat Hospital for urgent treatment.
The motorcycle was found 20 metres away from the scene, severely damaged, while the slide truck, driven by 44 year old Chawa, was parked by the roadside.
Chawa, the truck driver, explained that he was returning from delivering a client’s vehicle and was preparing to make a right turn at the intersection with his indicator on. However, the motorcycle, approaching at high speed, collided with the rear of his truck, resulting in the tragic accident.
A friend of the injured riders mentioned that they had been travelling from Ban Boerk in Tha Wung district to visit a flea market in Lopburi city. After their outing, they were heading home when the accident occurred.
The friend recalled warning Peranut not to speed but the warning went unheeded. The friend arrived at the scene only to find it was their motorcycle that had crashed.
“I warned Peranut not to drive fast because it was dangerous, but he didn’t listen. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the accident.”
Police documented the scene for further investigation and are examining CCTV footage from the vicinity to determine the exact sequence of events. The body of the deceased has been sent for an autopsy at Phra Narai Maharat Hospital, reported KhaoSod.
Meanwhile, Chawa, the truck driver, is being questioned by police as part of the ongoing investigation, and charges may be filed as appropriate.
