IN a gory case of infanticide, an 18-year-old girl stoned her toddler son to death to vent her frustration of failing to secure employment as a housemaid.
The sad incident happened in Mkwasine, Chiredzi district last week.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident leading to the arrest of the suspect, Maria Zimvumi aged 18.
“On December 12, 2024, police in Mkwanise arrested Maria Zimvumi (18) in connection with a case of murder which occurred on December 10, 2024, near Maranatha paddock.
“The suspect allegedly brutally stoned her baby boy (2 years) to death for unknown reasons,” police said.
“This was after the suspect failed to secure employment as a maid in Chiredzi town.
“In an attempt to conceal the crime, the suspect carried the victim’s body on her back and made a report at ZRP Chiredzi claiming that the victim died after falling from her back.
“Police inquiries proved that the suspect had made a false report to cover up for her criminal act.”
