Texas A&M should pursue Texas transfer DL Sydir Mitchell

Texas A&M’s the defensive line needs more depth after the departures of defensive ends Nic Scourton and Shemar Stewart, who declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, while defensive tackle Shemar Turner announced his draft intentions Tuesday afternoon.

The departures of all three players on the roster are not surprising, and the head coach Mike Elko and his staff know the profound issues that must be resolved through the transfer portal. While Elko’s focus has been on adding playmakers at wide receiver, an exciting defensive lineman has just entered the portal.

After two seasons with the College Football Playoff-bound Texas Longhorns, redshirt DL Sydir Mitchell will look at other options after entering the portal for the second time this offseason.

While Mitchell is still a raw player, the 6-6, 340-pound defensive lineman has a lot to offer as a depth play, and the Aggies need more size up front to stop the run and allow pass rushers to take hold late in games.

Sydir Mitchell has three seasons left once he chooses his next destination.
