A Thai maid discovered the body of a Japanese man in a hotel in the Sakhu district of Phuket yesterday, October 10. A suicide note written in Japanese was found at the scene.
Officers from Sakhu Police Station were alerted to the man’s death by a hotel maid and rushed to investigate. The deceased, later identified as 45 year old Japanese man Masaru Hara, was found hanging in room 204.
A medical team from Vachira Phuket Hospital later reported that Masaru had died approximately six to eight hours before being discovered. His body was transferred to the hospital, awaiting arrangements with his family.
The maid told DailyNews that she had gone to the room for cleaning. After knocking on the door and receiving no response, she used a spare key to enter.
Police searched the room and found a suicide note left by the deceased. Written in Japanese, it mainly explained that he had been suffering from depression and had attempted suicide multiple times before. He expressed feelings of loneliness and said he no longer wished to live.
Officers have coordinated with the Japanese Embassy in Thailand to contact his family and arrange for the repatriation of his body for the funeral.
In a related case, an American man suffering from depression took his own life in a hotel room in Phuket in May. His Thai ex-girlfriend told the media that she last contacted him two days before his body was found.
The woman explained that the foreign man knew he was struggling with mental health issues but refused to seek proper treatment.
Last month, a Russian man was found dead near Karon Beach in Phuket, with suspicious wounds on his body. Officers initially suspected foul play but later discovered evidence indicating that the man had committed suicide.
The man had reportedly asked his wife multiple times to end their lives together but she refused. She added that she did not know the true motive behind his decision.
