A Thai woman took to social media to share a video in which she attacked her neighbour, blaming the victim for cigarette smoke entering her home in Nonthaburi province, near Bangkok.

The Thai woman, 32 year old Kannika, shared a video of the altercation between herself and her neighbour, 64 year old Tuk, on Facebook yesterday, December 16. In the caption, she defended her actions.

“She (Tuk) takes on the role of an old and unharmed victim. People condemned me for assaulting an elderly woman. I have security cameras around my house that record Tuk smoking and blowing the smoke into my home. She always does it when she knows I am around.

I closed my house almost completely but I still need to live my life in my own home. Who can put up with someone who smokes and constantly blows smoke into other people’s houses? I endured it for more than four years but I can no longer tolerate it.”

In the video, Kannika is seen complaining to Tuk using a microphone. Tuk then emerged from her home, and the altercation quickly escalated. Kannika pushed Tuk to the ground and continued to attack her.

ThaiRath reported that the incident occurred yesterday at around 8.15am in a community located in Soi Samakki 9, in the Pak Kret district of Nonthaburi.

Husband smokes too

Kannika later revealed to Channel 8 that she suffers from a severe allergic reaction and urged people in the community, including Tuk, to smoke far away from her home. Kannika alleges that Tuk, who lives next door, intentionally releases cigarette smoke into her house.

The owner of the property where Tuk rents her home, Wanee, defended her tenant, saying Tuk did not intentionally direct smoke into Kannika’s home and tried to smoke further away. Wanee insisted that Tuk is a good person and a volunteer with the Ministry of Public Health, who enjoys helping others.

Kannika, who overheard Wanee’s interview, became angry and argued with Wanee in front of Channel 8 journalists.

A news Facebook page, กูอิแฉ บวกหมดไม่สนใคร (translated “I’m exposing everything and don’t care about anyone”), sided with Tuk and claimed that Kannika’s husband also smokes cigarettes. The page noted that Kannika seemed to be allergic to other people’s cigarette smoke but not to her husband’s.

Kannika responded to the criticism on her Facebook account, clarifying that her husband does smoke but he does it far away from her and the community. She insisted that her husband has never caused issues for anyone in the area, unlike Tuk.

ThaiRath contacted Tuk for a statement, but she declined to speak with the media. She did, however, reveal that she intended to take legal action against Kannika for the physical assault.
