The boil water notice remains in place this Christmas for some Limerick customers

UISCE Éireann would like to remind customers supplied by Cappamore Foileen Public Water Supply that the boil water notice remains in place.

This notice was issued as a precautionary measure to protect the health of approximately 2,300 customers on September 26, 2023 and was put in place due to the discovery of cryptosporidium in the water supply.

The notice affects all customers supplied by the Cappamore Foileen Public Water Supply, including Carrigmore, which is now supplied from the Cappamore Scheme.

Customers can check if their property is included by visitingwww.water.ieand enter the property’s Eircode or by calling Uisce Éireann’s 24/7 customer service on 1800 278 278.

Uisce Éireann says it is continuing to prioritize works to safely lift the boil water notice.

“Expert teams working on site are implementing corrective measures to existing processes and carrying out upgrades at the facility. This includes the installation of a state-of-the-art ultraviolet disinfection unit which will provide an effective and reliable barrier to eliminate the risk of cryptosporidium.”

ESB is also working to upgrade the website to minimize any delays and lift this notice in the shortest time frame possible.

Customers can expect BWN to be in place until early 2025 and we will continue to keep the community informed of progress through Uisce Éireann’s various channels.

Uisce Éireann’s Duane O’Brien said: “We recognize the significant inconvenience to affected customers of having a boil water notice in place for an extended period of time. Public health remains the highest priority for Uisce Éireann.

“Our drinking water standards, under EU drinking water regulations, are strict and include wide safety margins. Where risks to water quality are identified through Uisce Éireann’s enhanced testing and monitoring programme, the HSE (Health Service Executive) is consulted and Boil Water Notices are issued to protect public health. “

Vulnerable customers registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communication on BWN. Customers are reminded that the water is safe to consume once it has boiled.
