HBO has just released the first trailer for the highly anticipated third season of The white lotus, the brilliant anthology series from Mike White and one of my personal favorite shows on TV.
The star-studded trailer introduces us to the crowd of affluent tourists and the staff of the titular hotel in Thailand. Give it a watch before we continue:
The white lotus has taken us to Hawaii (season 1) and Italy (season 2) and is now heading east. The show is part dark comedy, part character drama and part mystery. Each season opens with a murder or murder, but you don’t know any of the details, including who might be the victim or the killer.
Season 3 features an all-new cast, although one character from Season 1 returns, just as one character from Season 1 took on a much larger role in Season 2. Ensemble cast includes Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins, Sarah Catherine Hook, Jason Isaacs, Lalisa Manobal, Michelle Monaghan, Sam Nivola, Lek Patravadi, Parker Posey, Natasha Rothwell, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Tayme Thapthimthong, Aimee Lou Wood. Additional cast includes Nicholas Duvernay, Arnas Fedaravičius, Christian Friedel, Scott Glenn, Dom Hetrakul, Julian Kostov, Charlotte Le Bon, Morgana O’Reilly and Shalini Peiris.
I’m especially happy to see Walton Goggins and Jason Isaacs in this, as both seem perfect for The white lotus. I am also delighted to see Michelle Monaghan who recently appeared in the excellent Apple TV series, Bad Monkey, and which many will recognize from the excellent first season of True detective.
The white lotus has been a critical darling, nominated for 43 Emmys in its first two seasons and taking home 15 of them, including Best Supporting Actress for Jennifer Coolidge in 2023. The first season also won Outstanding Limited Or Anthology Series. The second season was nominated in the Drama category, losing to the also phenomenal Sequence (nothing really stood a chance against that show in 2023).
Season 3 premieres on HBO and Max on February 16.
