Tom Brady admits Bill Belichick’s new job caught him off guard as Fox NFL star claims ‘it kind of blew me away’

TOM Brady has admitted that he was taken by surprise by Bill Belichick’s new job.

Belichick, 72, last week agreed a five-year, $50 million contract to coach the University of North Carolina.

Brady, 47, worked with Belichick for the best part of 20 years with the New England Patriots.

The duo won six Super Bowls together, before the quarterback left to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020.

Belichick continued to coach the Patriots until January this year, when the two parties mutually agreed to part ways.

Brady is now lead NFL analyst for Fox, and was on the call for last night’s game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Towards the end of the game, Brady was asked for his reaction to Belichick’s new job.

“It kind of blew me away when I heard the news,” Brady admitted. “I didn’t think that was an opportunity he was looking at.

“But they’re getting obviously a tremendous coach.”

Brady then went on to add, “Those guys are gonna play very hard, he’s gonna coach them well.

“It’s a great benefit for all those players that are going to that program because they’re getting the best coach that this pro NFL has ever seen, and now he’s at a college level.”

Brady was quizzed what Belichick’s recruiting will be like.

The former Patriot laughed as he replied, “The thing is, he’s not the warmest and fuzziest of all time.

“So it’s not like there’s tons… I remember one year after we won the Super Bowl, my first year, we got in the limo, he was out on Bourbon Street after we beat the Rams in 2001.

“We got in the limo after the game the next morning to go to the press conference and he goes, ‘you know what, Tom? You had a pretty good season’.

“That was about as warm and fuzzy as it got with coach Belichick.”

‘A PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM’

During a recent appearance on the Pat McAfee show, Belichick spoke briefly about how he would run a college program.

“If I was in a college program, the college program would be a pipeline to the NFL for the players that had the ability to play in the NFL,” he said.

“It would be a professional program. Training, nutrition, scheme, coaching, and techniques that would transfer to the NFL.

“It would be an NFL program, but not at the NFL level.”

Belichick is set to be joined on his coaching team by Michael Lombardi.

The duo previously worked together with the Patriots and will now team up at UNC.
