A TOP US college quarterback is eligible for a historic eighth season due to a little-known rule — and he could keep going after that too.
Cam Rising is the quarterback for Utah.

The Utah ace has picked up another injury[/caption]
He has played for them for seven seasons after three redshirt campaigns.
But Rising has only featured three times this year due to a finger injury.
He returned to action in Week 7 against Arizona State.
Rising threw an impressive three interceptions.
But he is now out injured again after picking up a lower leg problem.
And Rising could miss the rest of the season with his latest setback.
It means that the ace could end up getting a fourth medical redshirt as he has not participated in 30 per cent of the maximum number of games.
That would see him enter college football for a historic eighth season.
And Rising could continue to play on from there even longer.
Reflecting on his quarterback returning, coach Kyle Whittingham gave a coy insight.
He said: “We’ll have to consider it, not sure if Cam has considered it.”
Should Rising not take a redshirt, it would see him enter the NFL draft.
Another option is for Rising to enter the portal for a second time, having previously been at Texas, and turn out for a new school next year.
He has previously endured serious knee and shoulder injuries in recent seasons.
And a medical redshirt waiver could see him extend his lengthy college career even further.
The NCAA manual states: “An athlete may be granted an additional year of competition by the conference or the Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement for reasons of ‘hardship’.
“Each waiver request is considered on a case-by-case basis depending on the full record of factual information.”
